The misshapen mass of tissue and blood shuddered, its movement breaking the icy stillness. Hideous, bulbous appendages drew trails of ichor across the floor of the now-abandoned Russian station. A lone eye appeared from the depths of the creature, and blinked.
It blinked once more.
And a third time.
And from somewhere deep in the center of the creature, a guttural, sub-human voice echoed across the icy wasteland, traveling (it seemed) directly into the head of the DFL Playoff Coordinator, who mechanically began writing names on a paper, knowing not when, nor why, the thought had come, unbidden.
